On the identification of silk fabrics there are many ways, in fact, the most simple and practical wayis to use a lighter to burn it.
Silk fabrics are generally divided into warp and weft. First, pull out a warp yarn on a fire,real silk will emit a smell. The smell is same as burning a hair. The yarn cannot keep burning and there is no visible flame. When burned, the fiber shrinks into a dark gray ball, which is then turned into a powder by rubbing it withyour fingers. Then, pull out a weft yarn on a fire, if the weft is the same as warp, then this piece of fabric is very likely to be 100% silk.
The way of identifying silk fabric is not accurate. Because of the development of technology, there are a lot of silk cotton interwoven fabric or silk polyester interwoven fabric in the market.
First, let us talkabout the way of identifying silk polyester interwoven fabric.
1, Burning test.
There are following situation after burning silk polyester interwoven fabric.
As long as the fabric contains silk,it will emit the smell of burning silk. But if the fabric contains polyester,it will also emit smell of burning plastic in the same time.The yarn can keep burning with black smoke and visible flame. After burning,the fiber shrinks into a hard spherical solid.
2，Chemical test.
Pour some disinfectants into a glass. Then put a small piece of fabric (1.5cm*1.5cm) in the glass.Shake for a while to let the fabric and the disinfectant touching each other.After a while, if all fabric is dissolved, then this piece of fabric is very likely to be 100% silk. If part of the fabric is not dissolved, then this piece of fabric is not 100% silk.
Then, let us talk about the way of identifying silk cotton interwoven fabric.

But if the fabric contains cotton,it will also emit smell of burning paper in the same time.The yarn can keep burning with visible flame. After burning,the fiber become dark gray ash. So in such case, we can not tell whether it is 100% silk fabric.
2，Chemical test.
